Welcome.
My work brings together theatre, education and communication, with a particular interest in how meaning is made, interpreted and understood. For more than twenty years, I have worked across professional theatre, arts education and intercultural contexts in the UK, mainland China and Hong Kong, developing a practice shaped by performance, pedagogy, leadership and the study of communication in its deepest sense.
At the centre of my work is a long-standing concern with interpretation: how people read situations, respond to context, communicate presence, and make sense of what is said, unsaid and perceived. This has gradually developed into a wider focus on interpretive intelligence, which I see as an increasingly important human capability in education, leadership, culture and public life.
I am currently Head of Drama at Kellett, The British International School in Hong Kong. Alongside this, I continue to work across writing, communication training, public speaking and selected theatre projects. My professional life has included directing large-scale productions, shaping curriculum, developing teachers and young people, and helping others grow in clarity, expression and audience awareness.
Theatre remains a vital part of my practice. I continue to direct selected productions in both educational and professional settings, including musical theatre and new work. Across these contexts, I return to the same enduring questions: what gives performance its power, what enables communication to land truthfully, and what allows an idea, story or human encounter to resonate deeply.
Earlier in my career, I taught at Arts Educational Schools London, worked in professional theatre as an associate producer and director, and founded Superstars in the Making®, a performing arts school that trained thousands of young people over the course of a decade. I also completed an MA in Intercultural Communication at Shanghai Theatre Academy, which gave further depth and language to questions that had long been present in my work around culture, communication and meaning.
I hold an MA in Intercultural Communication, a First Class BA (Hons) in Drama and Theatre, a PGCE and QTS.
This website brings together the main strands of my work and thinking across communication, culture, education and performance. It is a space for writing, reflection and the development of a wider body of work around interpretive intelligence and the future of human communication.
